What we do
The project will support the improvement of local governance by initiating the development of local water security action plans in pilot areas in selected municipalities. This will contribute to an integrated approach to water management as a means of enhancing water security and showcasing the direct, tangible results of water-related dialogue and capacity building.
In addition to water security, project activities will address sustainable socioeconomic development, biodiversity conservation, the protection of ecosystem services and the active involvement of stakeholders. This will be done with the support of regional bodies established by the project, as well as national administrators, local leaders, selected experts and expert organisations such as IUCN Regional Office for West Asia (IUCN-ROWA).
The REC and its partners are well placed to coordinate the implementation of project activities, having built up wide expertise and established networks through their joint efforts in the MENA region. In addition, the REC has a proven track record of assisting the establishment of viable networks and coordinating their operations at both local and national level.
