Mission to Tunisia

Feb 22, 2015

The WATER POrT mission to Tunisia kicked off with a pivotal meeting with the Ministry of Agriculture and Water Resources, which is the national public authority on water issues, international projects and planning processes, as well as the focal point for liaisons between the WATER SUM project team and project stakeholders and beneficiaries. Additional meetings were set up with the Ministry of the Environment and Sustainable Development; companies in charge of water supply, distribution and sanitation; and subsidiary environmental agencies and research institutes.

All parties contributed to pinpointing potential, feasible activities to be further discussed and honed. These included, among others, early warning mechanisms; the biological monitoring of water resources; and synergetic approaches with other national initiatives and international cooperation programmes.

The project team now hopes to build on the fruitful outcomes of the mission and to strengthen its cordial relationships with the national water authorities. Further discussion of the next steps and actions, coupled with the identification of the needs of beneficiaries, will contribute to the development of the work plan that will guide the implementation of the project over the next two years.
