Cultivating partnership with Yemen

Apr 7, 2016
On April 6, 2016, Dr. Radoje Lausevic, deputy executive director of the Regional Environmental Center (REC) and WATER SUM project director, met with H.E. Mr. Hammad Abdullah Dahan Hammad, chargé d'affaires and ambassador of the Republic of Yemen to Hungary.

Dr. Lausevic and Ambassador Hammad discussed opportunities for cooperation between the REC and Yemen. The discussion focused on ways to ensure environmental sustainability and cultivate a global partnership for development that bridges Yemen, the REC and other like-minded organisations through the kind of regional approach that has already proved successful in the framework of projects such as WATER SUM. Yemen is developing an economic recovery programme to help heal the country when this turbulent period of conflict comes to an end. It is hoped that the country will soon resume its significant progress, and that the willingness of the younger generation can be channelled to contribute to the country’s future and sustainability.

Dr. Lausevic concluded the meeting by inviting Ambassador Hammad to the upcoming regional conference “Water, Growth and Stability: Transboundary Water Cooperation for Sustainable Growth and Stability in MENA", which will take place on April 26-28, 2016, at the premises of the REC in Szentendre, Hungary. The event will provide an opportunity to continue discussions with other actors from the MENA region and beyond.
