Development of Protocols for the Processing and Exchange of Data

Dec 15, 2017

Access to a wide range of high-quality information is essential in order to understand and safeguard the environment and water resources. Where data are incomplete, there will inevitably be limitations in the water quality assessments and environmental models for which they are used. This publication therefore highlights the importance of designing and implementing procedures for data processing and exchange at a regional, national and institutional level in order to prevent such limitations when evaluating water policies and providing water services to users. The book explores the current situation in terms of the storage and exchange of monitoring data in countries in the Middle East and North Africa, and presents proposals and recommendations for database management and data processing and exchange.

The publication was prepared in the framework of the project Sustainable Use of Transboundary Water Resources and Water Security Management (WATER SUM), which is implemented by the REC with funding from the Government of Sweden.
