Workshop: Water Demand Management - Economic Productivity of Water Use in Amman, Jordan

The Economic Productivity of Water Use training workshop held in Tunisia on 14-15 February 2018, aimed to enhance the knowledge of water related professionals on the principles of economic productivity of water use in sectors such as agriculture and industry.

 The objectives of this workshop, were:

  • Sharing knowledge on methodologies used to estimate the economic value of water in different sectors.
  • Provide hands-on experience from the international literature.
  • Evaluate the economic productivity of water in Jordan.

The participants were from the Ministry of Water and Irrigation, Water Authority of Jordan, Jordan Valley Authority, and from the Royal Department for Environmental protection (Rangers).

The workshop began by introducing the basic concepts, doing a literature review, and by showing case studies that portray the use of economic instruments to assess the productivity of water in different sectors. This was followed by presentations from Jordanian lecturers who covered topics related to economic productivity of water use and the water footprint in Jordan.  

The workshop concluded with a review of water markets and an interactive water auction game.
